The Nike Air Max 1 was first released in 1987. Footwear designer Tinker Hatfield came up with the idea of a visible Air Bubble after seeing the Centre Pompidou building in Paris. The Air Max revolution started here.

For a limited edition AM1 Nike asked Amsterdam artist Piet Parra. Together they released a sneaker in the style of the Dutch capital. Only 200-300 copies of the pair were made, which made it very exclusive. The success was also due to the colours used on the upper. The base of the upper is bright pink with dark red and brown overlays. The Swoosh, branding and laces are in a striking blue colour.
