Supreme and Martine Rose are teaming up on a Nike sneaker for the first time, and the result is a tribute to Mike Tyson. The Martine Rose Nike Dunk Low is expected to arrive in Europe on Thursday 15 October. Priced at €130, the Martine Rose Nike Dunk Low is the only footwear piece in a collection built entirely around boxing.
The base is a black leather upper, from toe to tongue. The lateral side panels and heel carry a large colour photo of Tyson that covers almost the entire rear of the shoe. Above it runs gold 'Supreme Martine' lettering, while 'Nike' sits on the heel seam in a similar finish. The contrast between the black leather and the colourful photo makes the back of the shoe the immediate focal point. The insoles carry co-branding too. The sole? Familiar Dunk tooling, kept dark and understated.
A nod to 1986
The graphic references Tyson's win over Trevor Berbick in 1986. That victory made him the youngest heavyweight champion in boxing history. The rest of the Fall/Winter collection builds on the same theme, with jackets, sweatshirts, a jersey, jeans, T-shirts, beanies, a mini duffle bag and a JBL speaker.
Martine Rose is no stranger to Nike: you probably know her from the Shox MR4. Still, this is her first sneaker made together with Supreme. On the Martine Rose Nike Dunk Low, that mix of London individuality and New York streetwear shows in the bold portrait set against the clean black base.
