The collaboration between Kiko Kostadinov Studio and ASICS is exactly what the sneaker world needed. The studio, led by the Bulgarian designer of the same name, is already responsible for a series of unique ASICS releases, including the recent launch of the UB6-S GEL-KINETIC™ FLUENT.
Now, the duo reunites for the reintroduction of the GEL-SD LYTE™, available in no less than three colorways.
Kiko does it again
The GEL-SD LYTE™ was originally designed as a revolutionary construction concept that was later translated into other categories, including Performance Running. In 2025, Kiko Kostadinov brings the model back from the archives, this time as a lifestyle sneaker paying homage to the sport that originally made the silhouette iconic.
The ASICS GEL-SD LYTE™ was inspired by the structure of – yes, really – an egg: a protective outer shell with a soft interior. To bring this idea to life, ASICS developed an upper fully constructed from injected EVA material, something previously used only in the sole.
The EVA panel that wraps around the entire upper creates a striking design not seen before in inline production. Whereas previous ASICS models mainly relied on mesh uppers, this design introduced a relatively “solid” construction.
Kiko Kostadinov builds on the innovative concept by adding a unique embossed synthetic overlay and retro-inspired two-tone open mesh.
The result is a revolutionary sneaker that, as the designer himself says, aligns harmoniously with the theme of “Simultanism” and highlights the assembly, form, and functionality of the ASICS sneaker.
The ASICS UB12-S GEL-SD LYTE™ is releasing in three colorways: 'Obsidian Grey', 'Lichen Rock', and 'Dolphin Grey'. The sneakers are already available at ASICS and selected retailers.
Kiko Kostadinov is a Bulgarian fashion designer known for his avant-garde, technical designs and innovative approach to sportswear and workwear. He collaborates closely with ASICS, where he has a significant creative influence on the SportStyle line.
