Zellerfeld x Nike Air Max 1000.3 By You: For Now Only in the US

Nike is bringing the 3D-printed Nike Air Max 1000.3 By You to its customisation platform. Together with Zellerfeld, you can now build this made-to-order model yourself. The Nike Air Max 1000.3 By You gives you two colours for the upper and seven for the Air unit.

For now, the option is only available in the US. Still, let's take a quick look at the design possibilities.

You choose the upper in tonal black or Stone. For the visible Air unit, there's Black, Olive Aura, Volt, Pink Spell, Team Orange, Racer Blue and Clear. That adds up to fourteen combinations.

A modest start. According to early reports, 3D-printed graphics and multicolour uppers aren't part of the configurator yet.

Third version of a printed shoe

The Air Max 1000 started out as a 3D-printed reinterpretation of the Air Max 1, developed with Hamburg-based Zellerfeld. Nike first showed the design in late 2024, followed by a black, a lilac and a first multicolour version, among others. After the original and the 1000.2, this is the third iteration.

According to Nike, the Air Max 1000.3 gets its lightest 3D-printed mesh to date and a softer midsole. Those claims come from the brand itself; we haven't wear-tested a pair yet.

Who is Zellerfeld?

Zellerfeld is a German company from Hamburg, founded by Cornelius Schmitt. The name refers to the small town of Clausthal-Zellerfeld, where he studied. What started as a student project has grown into a production setup with hundreds of 3D printers in Hamburg and a second location in Austin, Texas.

The difference from a regular sneaker lies in how it's made. A classic shoe consists of dozens of parts that are glued and stitched together. Zellerfeld prints a shoe from a single continuous strand of TPU. By varying the density per zone, it creates firm and flexible sections in one piece. Because only one material is used, the company says the shoes can also be recycled.

Zellerfeld also works as a platform for designers and has previously released shoes with Heron Preston, among others. With the Air Max 1000, Nike joined that list.

Delivery time and availability

Every pair is only printed after you order. That makes the move to By You a logical one: the model was already made on demand, and now you pick the colours too. Earlier reports put the delivery time at three to five weeks.

For now, the Nike Air Max 1000.3 By You is only available in the United States. Nike hasn't confirmed when you can build it in Europe, or what it will cost in euros. Keep an eye on the By You page at Nike for the European launch.
