March means only one thing for sneakerheads: Air Max Month. While the spotlight this year is primarily on classics like the Nike Air Max 95 'Neon' and new innovations like the Nike Air Liquid Max, Nike has even more surprises in store:
Two eye-catching Nike Air Max 90s have surfaced, combining classic colors with an unexpected design twist.
Two Colorways, One Striking Design
The new pack consists of two colorways: ‘Photo Blue/Cyber’ and ‘Infrared 23’. Although the colours are distinctly different, the construction of both sneakers is identical.
The base features a light grey mesh upper, paired with a sail-coloured quarter panel and a black leather mudguard. On top of this, contrasting accents appear that immediately catch the eye:
- ‘Photo Blue/Cyber’ featuring bright blue and neon yellow details.
- ‘Infrared 23’ featuring turquoise panels and a striking red Swoosh.
The result feels fresh and summery while remaining true to the model's DNA.
The Air Max 90 Gets an Unexpected Twist
What makes this release truly interesting is in the details. The well-known TPU components around the eyelets and the heel tab have been modified.
Where the lines normally run clean and straight, they are now curved and distorted like a wave, as if the airflow around the sneaker is being made visible. It gives the iconic Air Max 90 a more dynamic and almost futuristic feel.
Sneaker fans will also immediately spot a subtle connection to previous collaborations. The slightly wavy lines and the colorway of the 'Photo Blue/Cyber' are reminiscent of the famous “Wave” collabs with Patta, even though this pair remains a general release.
Nostalgia with a Nod to the Air Max III
Interesting detail: this release also leans visually toward the model's original name: Air Max III.
The combination of faded blue, soft grey tones, and contrasting branding creates a slightly nostalgic feel. Even the insoles get extra attention, featuring asymmetrical blue-green colours that make the overall design just a bit more playful.
Release info
For now, a worldwide release has not yet been confirmed. However, the pack is currently scheduled for March 17th in Asia.
Whether and when these sneakers will appear in Europe is not yet officially known. Given the timing during Air Max Month, however, there is a high chance these colorways will pop up at retailers soon.
Air Max Month continues to surprise. Between all the retro tributes and major releases, Nike shows that even within a classic like the Air Max 90, there is still plenty of room for experimentation. Keep an eye on our Sneaker News for more!
