It is one of Nike’s oldest designs: the Nike Moon Shoe, a sneaker from 1971 featuring the iconic waffle sole, inspired by a waffle iron. In 2024, the collaboration with Jacquemus gave the silhouette a more luxurious appearance. Now, the Moon Shoe is arriving for the first time in a general release.
Following the recent release of the Nike Air Max Dn8, one of Nike’s most modern and perhaps most futuristic designs to date, the brand is once again turning to its classics for the next drop. This time, Nike revisits one of the oldest silhouettes from its archives, creating a striking contrast.
The Moon Shoe features a minimalist silhouette with a sole inspired by a waffle iron; just look at the distinctive studs. This sole later served as the foundation for sneakers such as the Nike Oregon Waffle and the Nike Waffle Trainer. The upper combines cotton and nylon, with the Swoosh placed on the mid-panel.
After the reinterpretation by Jacquemus and Olympic champion Alysa Liu, who was recently spotted wearing the pair and quickly became a fan favorite, it appears that Nike has bigger plans for this silhouette. And that is something new for the Moon Shoe: from the archives to the streets.
The Nike Moon Shoe releases on April 3, 2026, via Nike SNKRS, followed by a broader release on May 7, 2026, at selected retailers. Keep an eye on the news page for more updates like this.
