My personal favorite release from 2024 is getting its well-deserved sequel. Kith Women and Amsterdam-based designer Daniëlle Cathari have just teased their new collaboration with New Balance: the 991v2 ‘Reverse Matcha’, a follow-up to last year’s successful ‘Matcha’ colorway.
A few months ago, rumors circulated that Cathari, the Dutch designer who rose to fame with her reworked adidas tracksuits that went viral in 2017, had left Kith, where she had been working as creative director since 2023.
Since her alleged departure, however, we have still seen several releases from Cathari, New Balance, and Kith, including the 204L, which dropped last August in a few colorful colorways under her direction. Now, once again, we are seeing a sneaker from this celebrated trio.
The ‘Reverse Matcha’ retains Cathari’s signature minimalist style and her warm matcha tones, which are more relevant than ever in 2025. As the name suggests, the ‘Reverse Matcha’ shuffles the colors of the original ‘Matcha’ colorway.
The matcha green suede and brown mesh have been swapped for brown suede and matcha green mesh, adding a fresh twist to an already excellent colorway. The sneaker also features the signature two-tone 991v2 midsole in white and cream.
The Daniëlle Cathari x New Balance 991v2 ‘Reverse Matcha’ drops this Friday, October 31, 2025, exclusively at Kith.
