CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 'Kiss of Death': Inspiration
If you take a look at these sneakers, you will immediately notice the unique details. The design is largely inspired by Chinese culture. CLOT is a fashion label founded by Edison Chen and Kevin Poon in 2003. The aim of the brand is 'bridging the East and the West through thoughtfully-designed apparel and goods'. With the collaboration of American brand Nike and the design of Edison Cheng, the AM1 'Kiss of Death' is the perfect example of this.
The sneakers are inspired by an old Chinese philosophy. It is about the pressure points of the foot, which are believed to be connected to the whole body by a spiritual force, 'Qi'. In the video above, CLOT shows that a person can even get a treatment through the shoes!
Eye for detail
A striking feature is the translucent layer on the underside of the sole. Through this layer, a foot with colourful pressure points can be seen. In addition, the inside of the sole is full of Chinese characters. Up close, you can see a list of parts of the body. These parts are all connected to the pressure points according to the philosophy.

Another eye-catching feature is the transparent parts on the upper. When you are not wearing socks, your toes will be clearly visible. This all coincides with the foot theme the shoe has.
Furthermore, the CLOT x Nike collab features a neutral beige suede base. This makes the brightly coloured accents stand out immediately. The orange sole and detail on the heel draw the eye. Red leather details are added on the swoosh, heel and tongue. To make things even more colourful, a light green colour is used on the 'Nike Air Max' logo on the tongue and upper eyelets.
What do you think of the meaningful CLOT x Nike Air Max 1 'Kiss of Death'? Do you dare to wear the shoes barefoot? You have some time to think about this, because the CLOT x Nike collab drops on March 6, 2021 via Nike. Keep an eye on the Sneakerjagers Blog to stay up to date with all the sneaker news!
