ATELIER KAMP

ATELIER KAMP is a small design studio based in Vienna, Austria. Founded in 2015 by Nora and Florian Kampelmühler, the company specialises in conceptual and graphic design, illustration, handlettering, visual merchandising and creative consulting. In doing so, the two designers are deeply rooted in hip-hop culture and are influenced by everything that surrounds and defines them: Nature, travel, art, pop culture, fashion, food and life in general.

KangaROOS and Atelier KAMP were inspired by the Vienna International Center (VIC) when designing this joint Ultimate MiG version. Johann Staber designed the building, also known as 'UNO City', in the 1970s. It consists of six Y-shaped parts, which in their striking arrangement should shade each other as little as possible.

The VIC opened in 1979 - exactly when Bob Gamm launched his "shoes with a bag". What a coincidence! Since then, the United Nations (UN) has been renting it for a symbolic shilling (= €0.07).

For ATELIER KAMP, this extraordinary building is so important because it is full of memories. Florian Kampelmühler's aunt Heide worked in the UNO City supermarket. When he was a child, she introduced him to all the new sweets and drinks back then. Today, he feels that she is his link to coolness. So he dedicates this shoe to his aunt.

The famous Hummel & Hummel factory makes the Ultimate MiG in Germany. As such, it is mainly made of smooth nappa leather in a light blue-grey, with dark grey suede inserts on the back of the foot and quilted side panels reminiscent of the structure of the building. In homage to the 70s, orange tones appear on the KangaROOS logo on the side, the terry lining, the Dubraes and the laces.

The look is rounded off with details in white nubuck and cream suede. Finally, you'll find a delicate touch of additional purple on the TPU eyelets. The whole ensemble stands on a cream-beige sole with lilac accents and a purple stabiliser.

"The times call for unity." To highlight what the KangaROOS UNITED project already emphasised, KangaROOS puts puzzle pieces in each pair's box. Based on the idea "We are all small pieces of a bigger picture," the brand hopes that one day the puzzle will be fully assembled.
