Sacai and Nike recently released two new colorways for their latest model: the Vaporwaffle. Earlier, in 2019, we saw designer Chitose Abe and Nike join forces again and release colourways for the LDWaffle. Now, in 2021, the beloved model returns in collaboration with Hiroshi Fujiwara, designer of Fragment.
Sacai has worked with Nike before in 2015. At that time, the two brands released a minimalist colorway for the Air Max 90. Yet the LDWaffle is a lot more unique than the Air Max 90 release and according to many the LDWaffle is also the sneaker of the year 2019. The sneaker is a composition of the Nike LDV and Waffle model, therefore double elements are placed on the sneaker. This has never been done this way before and so it is great to see this model back in 2021.
Fragment x sacai x Nike LDWaffle
The material use has remained the same as the previous releases of the sneaker. The base is made of translucent mesh and is combined by suede overlays on the mudguard, heel and eyestays. The LDWaffle has been given a Blue Void colorway. Most of the shoe has a dark blue colour. The Swoosh, tongue and heel have a contrasting white colour. Of course the sneaker has the double elements that could also be found on the previous editions. On the double tongue you can find the Nike and Fragment branding. Looking at the double midsole we see that it has a white colour that is combined with a dark blue rubber outsole.
