Kick out of the box // Once upon a time… The story of my one true sneakerlove

Enjoy!

With all of the new releases and pick ups, I felt the need to dig deep into my sneaker closet. I wanted to see those kicks I’ve had the longest and go down memory lane. Very often I ask sneakerheads to tell me their stories and almost all of them tell me how rewarding it is to go down memory lane and cherish the kicks you have. I’m a sneakerhead who’s always hunting. Hunting for that new release or that gem I just have to have. It’s always on to the next one with me. That doesn’t mean that I don’t have love for the pairs in my closet though. I decided it is time to express some of the love, by telling you a story which resembles a fairy tale.

Once upon a time, when I was still young LOL, there was this girl who loved to dance. I literally danced every day. One day I met a guy who shared my passion for dancing and we started talking. He became a very good friend of mine. Years later we both started realizing that there was more than just friendship between us. Looking back, there has always been that special something in our relationship. Right from the very beginning. Now… I bet you’re all thinking where is she going with this and what does it all have to do with her sneaker closet. I’ll tell you… After 5 years of friendship we went on our very first real date. It was February 14th 2005. Yeah yeah… It was Valentine’s day. Ironically enough everyone who knows me, knows that I’m not your general girly girl who loves Valentine’s day and all of the commercialized romance stuff that comes with it. But… this time it wasn’t the rhythm that got me… it was LOVE.

The plan was to stroll around Amsterdam and keep it classic with dinner and a movie. Since we both loved sneakers as much as we loved dancing, we checked out several sneaker stores. I wasn’t planning on buying anything, but it’s always nice to see what’s on the shelves…

In the end we had to rush a bit, because we had reservations. Stubborn as I am, I just had to check out one more store. And guess what… that’s where I found the one pair that I’ll always keep wearing and will never throw away. That 14th of February 2005 brought me not one but two Valentines. On the 14th of February 2005, my husband and I really found each other and haven’t let go since. On the 14th of February 2005, I found my one true sneakerlove in my Nike Dunk Valentines and haven’t let go since. It was a great day which ended up to be the start of my future.
