What started as rumour has now become reality- the model beloved among many sneakerheads is coming back. The Nike Air Max 1 '86 OG 'University Red' is also known as the 'Big Bubble'. The story behind this nickname is quite remarkable.
The Air Max 1 was the first Nike model with visible Air technology. For this reason, the testing process was very important. The 'Big Bubble' was one of the prototypes of the AM1, but was not yet perfect, according to Nike.
The Air unit was too large and could crack in cold temperatures. So in the final result of the Air Max 1, the Air unit was also made smaller to avoid this problem. Still, many OG sneakerheads loved the larger air bubble. And now, 37 years later, Nike is finally re-releasing it after its release in 1987.
