The Nike SB Dunk Low 'What the P-Rod' is coming soon and celebrates SB History

Skateboarding is more popular than ever in 2021, which is also increasingly due to the fact that Nike is currently pushing the brand's established skateboarding silhouettes. Using the sub-label name Nike SB, the brand has been delivering more new models on silhouettes like the Nike Blazer or the currently very hyped Nike Dunk since last year. In addition, the skateboarding community is finally getting a lot of new colorways on the Nike SB Dunk. But enough chatting, because here is a big piece of Nike SB sneaker history to celebrate today: The Nike SB Dunk Low 'What the P-Rod' celebrates its release this year! 🥳

Believe me, when it comes to exclusivity on the upper, this Nike SB Dunk is hard to beat! Find out what's behind the many different uppers and the different looks of the two shoes below! Now let's get to the release info you need:

Paul Rodriguez aka P-Rod

For anyone who has been involved in the world of skateboarding and especially the world of Nike SB for a while now, the name Paul Rodriguez is anything but unknown. With his street skateboarding skills, the native Californian has been one of the best skateboarders of all time for decades.

The 36-year-old has been a Nike SB team rider since 2005 and has already launched more than 10 of his own signature models on the market. 16 years of Nike SB history are partly thanks to him, which is why Nike is now dedicating a new SB Dunk model to him, celebrating his own designs from these loyal years as a team rider.

Lately, the pro skateboarder with Mexican roots has been posting a lot of videos and also pictures with the kicks, which indicates that the special pair really won't be long in coming! Here's a little taste before we look at the sneakers in detail:

The Nike SB Dunk Low 'What the P-Rod' in Detail

For his latest project with Nike SB, Paul Rodriguez takes a trip down memory lane and revisits some of his past releases with the Nike SB Dunk Low 'What The P-Rod'. The connoisseurs among you might have noticed it already: The idea for the design of the 'What the P-Rod' is inspired by the Nike SB Dunk Low 'What the Dunk!?' released in 2007.

Back then, a total of 31 of the most popular Dunks to date were immortalised on one pair and combined with each other on the individual design elements of the shoes. A quick side note: The Nike SB Dunk Low 'What the Dunk!?' is still one of the most coveted Dunks of all time, which is why you have to dig deep into your pocket to get your hands on a pair today.

But now back to the 'What the P-Rod'! Let's take a look at the beautiful sneakers:

Of course, we won't go into every single design element here now, but we also don't want to deprive you of a few highlights. For example, the right shoe here comes with the golden boxing-inspired lace dubrae from one of Rodriguez's SB Dunk Highs from 2020, while the rest of the upper comes with super many different patterns, materials and colours.

From the 'serape' (Mexican blanket) on the toebox to the iconic elephant print, both shoes feature references to P-Rod's most iconic signature pairs. Two different midsoles and outsoles round off the whole design: The left shoe comes in the tri-colour style of the Mexican flag, while the right shoe delivers a light brown gum sole, which of course was also inspired by past SB collaborations.

This pair is certainly hard to beat in terms of exclusivity! If you look at the status the 'What the Dunk!?' released in 2007 has today, then even if you don't like the kicks at all, this is at least a good investment. But you can also be sure to get a lot of hate from the skateboarding community who want to 'shred' (use for skating) their SB dunks.

Good luck with the copping! And don't forget: Our daily updated release calendar gives you a cool overview of all upcoming sneaker releases. You should also download our app so that you never miss a release or restock again.
