We are seeing more often now that Nike sneakers are inspired by events that happened in the past. This time Nike takes the Air Max 90 back to the 60s. This Air Max 90 colorway takes its inspiration from Pirate Radios from the United Kingdom. Pirate Radio came into being in the early 1960s, with pop music radios broadcasting their music to ships sailing around the coast of the United Kingdom. This was not illegal as they were broadcasting their music in international waters. One of the first pirate radio stations was Radio Caroline, which first broadcast in 1974. As early as 1967 it was 10 radio stations broadcasting and there were some 10 to 15 million daily listeners.
In fact there's even been a film made based on Pirate Radio, the 2009 Comedy 'The Boat That Rocked' (Or known as 'Pirate Radio' in the USA). It is starring Bill Nighy, Nick Frost, Rhys Ifans and Chris O'Dowd as well as many other British Actors!

The toe box and ankle area consist of grey nylon. This grey nylon material is combined with dark blue leather on the mudguard and midfoot. A contrasting red colour we see on the eyestays, Air Max logo on the midfoot, area around the air unit and heel. On the heel is a sound wave with the Nike Air logo above it. Another nice detail is that the outsole is transparent and underneath is a skull graphic. A white Midsole rounds off the sneaker.
