New Balance recently announced their partnership with Bricks & Wood. Together, they are releasing a new version of the 57/40 silhouette.
New Balance 57/40
The 57/40 model looks different from the classic New Balance designs. For instance, the leather 'N' logo is enlarged and overlaid with different overlays. Furthermore, the shoe contains a mix of different materials, including premium pigskin suede, mesh and leather. The corrugated midsole is high at the back, which makes the sole look very sturdy and extra comfortable. The outsole has also been upgraded: it is made of rubber and is anti-skid.
The new Bricks & Wood x NB design
South Central LA-based brand Bricks & Wood has redesigned the 57/40 for its first-ever collaboration with New Balance. With each release, the brand celebrates Black America while giving a nod to the South Central LA lifestyle.
The vibrant green colour on the kick refers to the LA neighbourhood that Bricks & Wood CEO and founder Kacey Lynch is very passionate about. Additionally, the sneaker features silver overlays on both the sides under the large N-branding and on the heel tab. The sole consists of the four colours in order: green, tan, white and red. This mix of colours gives the shoe a unique look.
The sneaker will be released exclusively at Bricks & Wood on 27 May and then worldwide via New Balance on 4 June.
Jungle to Jungle short movie

In addition to the shoes, the two brands have made a short film called Jungle to Jungle. This film is directed by Curtis Taylor Jr. It revolves around Kasey as a young boy from South Central who grows up designing a shoe. The overarching message is that no matter where you are in the world, there is always an opportunity to make your dreams come true.
"Kacey and his team's passion for product storytelling and their strong commitment to their community is what drew us to them in the first place," said Joe Grondin, New Balance's senior collaboration and energy product manager. "We are excited to introduce New Balance's global audience to Bricks & Wood, and we are eager to bring New Balance to South Central with this collaboration."
