The Basement is going to collaborate with New Balance and releases the The Basement x New Balance 2002RS. The 2002RS model by New Balance has become very popular in recent years.

The New Balance 2002RS has been used in collaborations with brands such as BAPE and designer Salehe Bemburry in the past year alone. These collaborations were released last summer and less than a month later, the very popular 'Protection Pack'.

This sneaker was notable for its used look and frayed details. Three colorways were released.

According to boutique Extra Butter, this was an homage to New Balance for making sneakers that lasted so long. The message that New Balance sneakeres last a lifetime was incorporated into the shoe with the used look of the Protection Pack. The result is a sneaker that looks like it could fall apart at any moment.

Now it is the turn of The Basement. The first photos of this collaboration have already been released. There are two colorways, a grey pair with white and stone-coloured details and an olive-coloured pair. Both colorways have black soles and The Basement logo on the heel.

The culture of The Basement

The Basement community in London has been active since 2013. What started out as a small Facebook group of streetwear fanatics getting together quickly grew into a large community of over tens of thousands of followers all sharing the same passion. From streetwear to music and politics, The Basement community is a place for many young people in the UK to share their passions and thoughts.

Originally, The Basement was a closed online community on Facebook and anyone who wanted to enter had to send a request. If this application was approved, you were #BasementApproved and could join the community.

Over the years, The Basement has grown to more than 100,000 people both online and offline. Although The Basement has become a lot bigger and more accessible, their Facebook group is still a closed group.

The Basement - First collaborations

The Basement was initially formed around fashion in England. Cities like London and Manchester had a big influence on streetwear in England, and The Basement capitalised on this. The group gave way to conversations about upcoming brands, clothing items or trainers, and people gave each other clothing advice.

In 2017, The Basement partnered with Nike to release their first sneaker, The Basement Nike Dunk Low. These dunks consist of nine types of materials that, according to Daniel Pacitti, a member of The Basement, stood for all the different people in the community.

In 2019, Nike came out with three Air Max 90s in collaboration with The Basement. These pairs revolved around the English cities of London, Glasgow and Manchester. Thus, the sneakers were named after the cities and the colorways of the Nikes were inspired by the cities in question.

The two silhouettes of the The Basement x New Balance 2002R will not be named after a city. However, there is a chance that the sneakers will only be available in England.
