The Air Jordan 1 Low 'Chinese New Year', which surfaced earlier this month, is not the only sneaker dedicated to Chinese New Year. There is another Jordan model that has also been given a Chinese New Year makeover, namely the Air Jordan 5 Low.
Each year, the Chinese calendar is represented by one of the twelve animals in the Chinese zodiac. 2021 is dominated by the Ox. 2020 was dominated by the Rat.
The Air Jordan 5 was originally released in 1990. The silhouette was released in 4 different colorways. It was inspired by the Mustang fighter jet from the Second World War. The sneaker has a reflective 3M tongue, but also mesh netting on the tongue and side panels. In the year 2000 we saw the first retros appear. Also the Air Jordan 5 was the first 'Air Jordan Retro' of the new millennium. In the years that followed we received dozens of retro releases.

Just like the Air Jordan 1 Low, the Air Jordan 5 Low will have a top that is entirely composed of subtle canvas material. This material is processed in a 'sail' colour. The sneaker is brought to life by the bright red accents that have been added to the shoe. The eyestays, the Jumpman logo, the sockliner and also the midsole provide a lively look. To add some contrast, the tongue has been processed into a black colour. There is a special patch on the back of the heel. Beneath the upper part is a sail-coloured midsdole and a rubber, transparent outsole that completes the sneaker.
