The highly anticipated adidas x Gucci collection dropped on June 7, 2022. The collection takes its inspiration from the 1970s and combines the iconic styles of adidas and Gucci. The items are available at Gucci and in the adidas Confirmed app. More items of the collection will appear in the adidas Confirmed app in the coming weeks.
adidas x Gucci
The first adidas x Gucci collaboration has a retro look. Several items from the collection were shown during the Exquisite Gucci runway in late February 2022. The famous Trefoil logo appeared on these items, as well as the three stripes that are characteristic of adidas.
In May 2022, the two names showed the lookbook of the collection. This showcased the vision of Alessandro Michele, creative director at Gucci, and combined high end fashion with streetwear. The collection takes its inspiration from a 1979 adidas catalogue. Alessandro Michele translated the vibrant colors and striking prints into the collection.
To animate the concept of the collection, the items are shown with moving images, captured by Carlijn Jacobs. In front of brightly colored backgrounds, we see models stretching, running or dancing to a soundtrack with qoutes like, "When your thoughts become reality, you understand what magic is."
The collection
The adidas x Gucci collection dropped on June 7, 2022. The collection comes with items for women and men. In addition to clothing items, the two names also come with bags, accessories, jewlery and lifestyle items. The collection is available at Gucci and adidas Confirmed.
Both the styles of adidas, and that of Gucci are clearly evident in the collection. The well-known GG monogram appears on the clothing items. This print combines the adidas Trefoil logo. The items in the collection hint at the sportswear of the 70s. Despite their sporty look, they exude a contemporary character.
Luxurious items such as leather heels, suede loafers and silk scarves clearly showcase Gucci's work. Lifestyle items, such as the golf bag that comes in two colorways, also hint at Gucci's heritage in leisure products.
adidas Originals
The work of adidas is also evident. The collection comes with multiple colorways of the adidas Originals Gazelle. These retain their iconic silhouette and have the GG monogram or Gucci logo on their upper. The adidas Originals tracksuits and oversized shirts also stay close to adidas' DNA.
The collection takes its inspiration from adidas' rich sporting heritage. In 2001, the adidas Originals brand was established. Marked by the iconic Trefoil logo, which first appeared in 1972, adidas Orignals continues to lead the way as a progressive sportswear brand.
The collection is designed with innovation and sustainability in mind. For example, the items are made with sustainable materials such as polyester, cotton and viscose. Also, each item comes in a special packaging with the adidas x Gucci logo. This packaging is specially designed for the collaboration and is made with recycled materials.
The drop
The collection is available at adidas Confirmed and Gucci since June 7, 2022. In the coming weeks, adidas Confirmed will be releasing more items from the collection. For example, on June 14, 2022, several items will drop at adidas Confirmed. These include a bucket hat, several jackets and bags.
Two weeks later on June 28, 2022, the collection expands to include various accessories and clothing items. On July 7, 2022, the different colorways of the Gucci x adidas Originals Gazelle will appear. The duffle bag with the logos of Gucci and adidas will also be available on this date.
