In 1983 Nike brought the Pegasus model out on the market for the first time. The model was meant to be the shoe for every runner. The sneaker was designed with the idea of being made half out of air, which was similar to the winged half horse: Pegasus. Throughout the years, many colorways and variations have been released. Check out our selection of 5 special Nike Pegasus sneakers below.
1. OG 1983
The Nike Pegasus 1983 was sold for $50 during its release. The model was designed by Mark Parker and Bruce Kilgore. The photos above show the women's version with the brown swoosh and the men's version with the blue swoosh. The upper was made of nylon and the Pegasus was given a light suede leather toe, heel cap and eyelets.
2. Air Pegasus ACG
The Air Pegasus ACG was released in 1988. What was special about the sneaker was that the upper was made of synthetic leather. The shoe also had a rubber toe guard that was added to offer runners an alternative to cold, wet conditions. The shoe could also be worn for off-road running.
3. Nike Air Pegasus 1997
In 1996, the Visible Air was first introduced on the shoe. The Air Bubble is clearly visible on the sole of this 1997 Air Pegasus. The sneaker has a breathable mesh upper. In addition, the shoe has a comfortable midsole of air foam and extra cushioning.
Furthermore, the Pegasus also has a special fit which makes the shoe fit the way your foot pronates and rolls on impact. The Nike Air Pegasus 1996 was the first version of the shoe with a visible Air Sole Unit in the heel and this is also applied on the 1997 version.
4. GYAKUSOU x Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Trail
In September 2019, the GYAKUSOU x Nike Air Zoom Pegasus 36 Trail collab was released. The shoes are made of breathable materials. The sole gives good grip for runners and is also suitable for off the road paths in the forest for example. What's special is that the laces give good support because they run parallel to the boats of your foot. Furthermore, the mesh on the upper is water repellent. Finally, the overlays are placed in the areas where runners need more support and reinforcement.
5. Sacai x Nike Pegasus Vaporfly
The first Sacai x Nike Vaporwaffle was released in 2020 with the above sneakers. To create the design, two Nike models were combined: these are the Vaporfly and the Pegasus. This combination is easy to see, because of the double elements that return on the kicks. The laces, tongue, sole and swoosh are double.
These were five particular Pegasus sneakers. As you can see, there are many different variants of the model. Yet there is one big similarity: all Pegasus designs are made for comfort. View the entire selection of Pegasus designs via the button below.
