Vans is releasing two new, special, colorways of the iconic skating shoe, the Half Cab. The silhouette is celebrating its 30th anniversary with this special collab with Size? store. The Size? x Vans Half Cab 'Taxi' pack will be exclusively available at Size?.
The now iconic Half Cab, named after the skate trick, design first came about in 1992 when, the legendary skateboarder, Steve Caballero updated his signature Vans Caballero shoe. He made it a 'lighter, better, faster' version of the latter model. The main goal of the redesign was to make it more functional. Because skaters were already sawing off the top part of the Vans Caballero, they made the Half Cab a mid-height silhouette to overcome this issue.
As the name of the pack already reveals, the two colorways take inspiration from the New York and London-style taxis. The darker 'London' version replicates the feel of an iconic 'London black cab' with the all-over mixed materials of plush suede and textile in a black hue. In contrast to the dark 'London' sneaker, the 'New York' version arrives in a bright yellow colorway that is unmissable. Made of hairy suede and features the recognisable checkerboard design on the sidewall, collar and laces.
The true beauty of the shoes, however, lies in the details. The typical Vans 'license plate' on the heel of the shoes comes in the actual colors that the taxis would have in their respective cities. On the bottom of the ices soles 'Off Duty' can be read to imitate the signs on top of taxis. Furthermore, the side panel on the 'London' sneaker comes in orange like the signs on top of the black cabs. To complete the design, the map of each city can be seen on the insoles of the sneakers.
The Size? x Vans Half Cab 'Taxi' pack comes on September 23, 2022, and will be exclusively available via Size?. The sneakers will be available in men's and women's sizes and will set you back €95.
