STAUD x New Balance exudes summery West Coast vibes

Inspired by the trendy sports of tennis and boxing, STAUD x New Balance's summer collection includes two exclusive pairs of retro sneakers. These colourful variants of the New Balance 327 and the 57/40 are now available.

"Working with a heritage company that has been around since 1906 felt like a perfect collaboration," STAUD's Sarah Staudinger tells Vogue during the launch of the 2020 collaboration. "There is something so quintessentially New England about New Balance. We hope that we can infuse some of our West Coast, Californian attitude to their lineup." This collab is already the third of the two top brands.

When designing the collection, Staudinger thought about how she got creative in the fresh air. Especially during the recent time and Corona shutdowns, when you didn't have much else to do but spend your free time outside.

“I started to try new activities and sports like pickleball (which I have become embarrassingly obsessed with) and many of my friends started playing tennis. Others started boxing and running and hiking again, or tried new sports for the first time. We wanted to create a collection that offered the perfect pieces for all those moments and then some.”

The West Coast vibe is very evident in the new collection, with lightweight skorts and dresses now in the lineup. Then of course there are the two colourful versions of the currently so popular New Balance silhouettes of the 327 and 57/40.

Other pieces in the collection include shorts and shirts to create matching sets, boxer shorts with a gathered waistband or tennis-ready dresses. There are also jackets with laces and corsets that add an activewear touch in the form of sports bras and tops with contrasting edging.

STAUD Clothing

STAUD, headed by former Fashion Director at Reformation Sarah Staudinger, is known for its skilful use of colour. In Staudinger's eyes, 'outdoor' sports include tennis, boxing, running and the like, each of which are important influences not only for the aforementioned shoes but also for the accompanying clothing collection.

"While there are true activewear pieces throughout, there are also layering and lounge pieces. We wanted to offer a collection that can get you from boxing to brunch and beyond."

When it comes to wardrobe, STAUD has made it a 'science' to base their fashion on emotion rather than formulas. That's why Sarah Staudinger and George Augusto founded the Los Angeles-based brand in 2015 with the idea that fashion shouldn't just empower women - it should also be accessible.

But the heart of the brand remains the design. They aim to impress with meticulous attention to detail, a natural opposition to the typical and a feminine aura. STAUD fashion is meant to be both seductive and self-possessing for women.

The NB 327 silhouette was first launched in 2021 in a collaboration with French-Moroccan brand Casablanca. The designer of the sneaker inspired by the models of the 70s is Charlotte Lee.

The 57/40 silhouette is also a new model from sportswear brand New Balance. It is the skilful reinterpretation of the best-selling NB 574 and follows the trend of 'dad' sneakers a little. True to the motto: the chunkier, the better.
