Safaripark Beekse Bergen
Nike's popular 'Safari' colorway has been a household name among true sneaker fanatics since 1987. This print originated on the Nike Air Safari. Designed by Tinker Hatfield and released in 1987, the same year as the also popular Air Max 1 model. At the time, Tinker Hatfield, also the designer of the Nike Air Safari, found the inspiration for this now iconic print in high-end furniture shops in New York City.
Three decades later, we still come across the Safari print on a wide variety of Nike models. The great popularity of this Safari print is probably largely due to the Air Max 1 model. We first saw this print appear on the Air Max 1 silhouette in 2003. Indeed, back then it was Japanese retailer Atmos, which released a Safari Air Max 1. A veritable grail for many collectors.
As this year, 2023, marks the 20th anniversary of the release of this Air Max 1 Atmos Safari, we thought it was a great opportunity to celebrate the popular colorway in a special way with you. And we do so with an exclusive giveaway during Valentine's Day and the days after! Because we love Safari!
