Pharrell Williams will present his first collection as Creative Director at Louis Vuitton during Paris Fashion Week in June 2023. He follows in the footsteps of Virgil Abloh, who passed away unexpectedly at the end of 2021. The runway show is most likely scheduled for June 20, 2023, at 20:30.
Artist and designer Pharrell Williams was appointed as Creative Director at Louis Vuitton in early 2023. After Virgil Abloh's passing, there was much speculation about his successor. Names such as Kanye West (also known as Ye), Colm Dillane, and Martine Rose were mentioned, but the brand deemed them unsuitable for the position.
Following in Virgil's footsteps is no easy task. The designer, who also founded Off-White, was beloved by many and had a talent for combining high-end fashion with streetwear. The decision to choose Pharrell as his successor has been deemed the right one by Pietro Beccari, Louis Vuitton's Chairman and CEO.
Louis Vuitton and Pharrell Williams had previously collaborated in the past. The rapper has his own clothing line called Billionaires Boys Club and has had collaborations with adidas and Chanel. Additionally, Pharrell had a personal connection with Virgil and is best equipped to carry forward Abloh's vision.
"I am glad to welcome Pharrell back home, after our collaborations in 2004 and 2008 for Louis Vuitton, as our new Men's Creative Director," said Pietro Beccari in a statement. "His creative vision beyond fashion will undoubtedly lead Louis Vuitton towards a new and very exciting chapter."
On June 20, 2023, at 20:30, the first Louis Vuitton Men's collection under Pharrell's leadership will be showcased. The runway show will likely be broadcast on Louis Vuitton's Instagram account through a live story.
