The Asics GEL-Lyte III OG is at the absolute top when it comes to classic silhouettes and has lost none of its popularity over the years. This time it is inspired by the colours and design motifs of Daruma dolls. Two new colourways are now on the market. The ASICS GEL-LYTE III 'Daruma' ushers in the spirit of happiness and prosperity to celebrate the New Year.
A widely worn sneaker since the early 90s and still the most popular Asics model. Besides that the sneaker looks super cool, this design also has several details for extra comfort. The model has the well-known GEL technology, which provides cushioning in the heel. We also see the split tongue. This was never done before on a shoe, but still makes the sneaker, now 30 years later, an icon. These two new colorways are also finished to perfection.
What is a Daruma Doll?
The Daruma is a round, hollow wooden doll made traditionally in Japan for luck and perseverance.
They're modelled after Bodhidharma, the founder of Buddhism, and are typically red and depict a bearded man.
When receiving the doll, it will have no eyes. You should fill in the right eye yourself upon setting yourself a goal; then, every time you see the one-eyed Daruma, you're reminded of your goal.
When your goal is fulfilled, you fill in the left eye as well!

The first colorway has a white base, made of leather. In this leather are small holes, for air in the sneaker. The overlays are colored red and also made of leather. The split tongue is also coloured red and is overlaid by black laces. The black colour is also used for the Asics logo on the side. This logo has a nice shiny detail! Small gold accents give the sneaker a boost. Inspiration source: Daruma, can clearly be found on the sneaker!
ASICS GEL-LYTE III OG BALTIC JEWEL 'DARUMA' | 1201A180.300
This colorway is also inspired by Daruma dolls. Like the red colorway, it features a white perforated leather base. This time, the overlays are colored blue/green. This colour runs from the heel to the toe. As seen on the red colorway, this one also has a black shiny accent over the side that makes the trainer extra special. The finishing touch is added with gold details in the rims and heels tab. This colorway also has a white midsole, which features the GEL-LYTE technology.
Both colourways of the Asics GEL-LYTE III OG Classic 'Daruma' released on Friday, January 22 at midnight at ASICS and selected retailers. They come with a price tag of €130.
