In a sneaker landscape that has become highly fragmented with all kinds of collaborations, Nike is joining forces with Costco, the American supermarket chain. The sneaker features a gray fleece upper reminiscent of your favorite pair of sweatpants.
A skate shoe for a U.S. supermarket chain, how random can it get? This collaboration is with Costco Kirkland, the retailer’s private label. Over the past decades, Kirkland Signature has grown increasingly popular as an alternative to name brands.
In recent years, Costco Kirkland has already designed and released a few sneakers of its own. For its 30th anniversary, the brand is going bigger, teaming up with none other than Nike for an SB Dunk. The sneaker comes in soft sweatshirt material, with even the lining resembling the inside of a jumper.
On the heel, the Kirkland Signature box logo is embroidered, while behind the tongue, you’ll find a label styled like a price tag you’d often see in Costco stores. Printed under the insole is a $1.50 hot dog, more Costco than that is hard to imagine.
The simple design perfectly reflects the down-to-earth appeal of Kirkland.
The release is planned for the 2025 holiday season. It is not yet known whether the sneaker will be exclusive to Costco Kirkland or also released via Nike and selected retailers.
Kirkland is the private label of the American supermarket chain Costco. The house brand has become a staple in many U.S. households and stands out for its simplicity.
