Nike Dunk High 'Nike Classic' celebrates 50 years of Hip Hop

Nike and Hip Hop culture have been linked for decades. It was mostly the basketball sneakers that were suddenly seen on the streets of New York from the basketball courts in the early 1980s. A new style embraced by the Hip Hop community and, from then on, unmissable in the fashion scene of the time to this day.

There have been numerous Nike collaborations in the past that honoured the connection with the Hip hop community or paid tribute to the culture. In 1999, for example, there was a very limited collaboration with rap formation Wu-Tang Clan, also on the Dunk silhouette. More recently, collaborations with rapper Travis Scott always raise a lot of eyebrows. His most recent collaboration with Jordan Brand in late 2022, the 'Black Phantom' Air Jordan 1 Low was again sold out in no time.

This year, we celebrate the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop and Nike doesn't want to let that pass by lightly. Nike will celebrate this with the Nike Dunk 'Classic'. Before this, Nike also released the Nike Air Force 1 Low 'Nike Classic'.

The Nike Dunk 'Classic'

In celebration of Hip Hop's 50th anniversary, Nike will pay tribute to the culture that years ago made their sports shoes a fashion item.

The Nike Dunk 'Classic' is all about the 50th anniversary of Hip Hop in 2023. The birth of Hip Hop was on 11 August 1973. When DJ Kool Herc (real name Clive Campbell) and a friend organised a back-to-school party in the Bronx New York. DJ Kool Herc and his friend Coke La Rock are also often referred to as the fathers of Hip Hop. The rest is history and 50 years later, this culture influences the world's biggest fashion houses in terms of fashion and Rap calls the shots on the global charts.

Details

The Nike Dunk 'Classic' has a real vintage look. A mix of both grey and black leather as the upper. The black laces and the Swoosh is crafted to give the shoe a worn vibe. The sole consists of a white/cream colour with a black tint underneath.

There is only speculation at the moment. Nike itself has still been quiet about the release of this Dunk. Still, it is speculated that the sneaker will probably come out in 2023, given that this year will mark 50 years since the birth of Hip Hop.
