The month of March is all about the Air Max at Nike. On 26 March, Air Max Day celebrates the existence of the Air Max 1, the iconic silhouette first introduced on 26 March in 1987. The day is accompanied by unique releases of the model, so too in 2023. This year, several unique Air Max 1 releases will drop throughout the month of March.

Air Max Month Releases
On 26 March 1987, the first Air Max model was introduced at Nike: the Nike Air Max 1. Designed by Tinker Hatfield, the sneaker was the first Nike model where the Air Unit was visible. Inspired by the Centre Georges Pompidou building in Paris, Hatfield wanted to show elements of the sneaker innards on the outside, like the Air Unit.
Over the past decades, the Air Max 1 model has become one of Nike's most famous and iconic silhouettes. During Air Max Month in March, Nike highlights the model and does so with unique releases. On the 26th March, it is Air Max Day and the day is celebrated with various campaigns and the best Air Max 1 release of that year.

3rd of March: SFR 'Summit White'
Nike kicks off the month with the Air Max 1 SFR 'Summit White'. The sneaker has a quiet colorway and brings back the well-known 'Safari' motif on the Swoosh and on the mudguard. Light blue details at the lace eyelets and on the outsole give the sneaker a unique twist.
4th of March: LeBron x Liverpool
A unique collaboration dropping in the month of March is the LeBron x Liverpool x Nike Air Max 1. Basketball player LeBron James teams up with football club Liverpool and releases his own Air Max 1 colorway. LeBron has been a part-owner of the British football club since 2011, and Liverpool has partnered with Nike since 2020. In short, plenty of reason for their own sneaker.
The Air Max 1 comes dressed in the colors of Liverpool's team colors and features details on the heel and insole that hint at LeBron and FC Liverpool. Red details in the collar and Air Units give the sneaker a distinctive twist.
10th of March: Premium 'Shima Shima III'
Another unique sneaker dropping during Air Max Month is the Nike Air Max 1 Premium 'Shima Shima III'. The sneaker takes its inspiration from the 'Shima Shima' pack, releasing back in 2003. The sneaker shares the same colors and has modern tweaks.The white upper colours well with the light brown and grey tones. The collar features a stripe pattern.
17th of March: Corduroy 'Baltic Blue'
The highly anticipated Nike Air Max 1 Corduroy 'Baltic Blue' arrives at Nike's website on the 17th March 2023. The sneaker comes with an upper made of corduroy and features a bright blue colour. The centre panel features the Swoosh. The tongue features the Nike Air emblem. The yellowed midsole gives the sneaker a retro twist.
22nd of March: '87 WMNS 'Tiger Swoosh'
The Nike Air Max 1 '87 WMNS 'Tiger Swoosh' has a striking look. The sneaker, which incidentally is a WMNS exclusive, comes with various animal prints. A floral motif is on the toecap and the heel has a paisley print. The velvet laces give the sneaker a chic look.
26th of March: '86 OG 'University Red'
On Air Max Day, the Nike Air Max 1 '86 drops in the OG 'University Red' colorway. The Air Max 1 was introduced to the world in 1987 in the 'University Red' colorway and would become an instant classic. The sneaker has a white upper made of mesh. The colorway comes with light grey and red overlays.
Unlike previous Air Max 1 models, this variant has a larger Air Unit that people refer to as the 'Big Bubble'. The silhouette was introduced in 1986 and has remained very much under the radar ever since. On Air Max Day 2023, the silhouette returns in the OG colorway.
The sneaker also comes in WMNS and GS sizes.
27th of March: Golf 'Sport Red'
Nike concludes Air Max Month with the Air Max 1 Golf 'Sport Red'. The sneaker comes in the OG 'Sport Red' colorway and is specifically designed for the sport of golf. The upper is mesh and leather overlays are placed all over the silhouette in 'Sport Red' and 'Neutral Grey' colors.
