The Nike Air Huarache celebrates its 30th anniversary this year and returns with its 'Purple Punch'. This colorway was first released in 1991 and will be re-released in 2021.

In 1991, the Air Huarache was launched for the first time. The model was designed by Tinker Hatfield and the first pairs were sold to runners. The upper is made of neoprene and 'embraces' the foot as it were. This made it a very comfortable sneaker for runners and the silhouette soon caught on with the wider public.

The Air Huarache will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2021 and Nike is celebrating with the 'Purple Punch'. The pair from 1991 has a white and purple colorway and was also worn by athlete Micheal Johnson. The athlete appeared in a Nike commercial in 1992 with the purple Air Huaraches on his feet. The model's slogan "Have you hugged your foot today?" was also a signature quote for the pair.

The upcoming OG 'Purple Punch' retains its white and purple colorway. Here, the upper of the pair is mainly white with black and purple accents. The heel and sock of the Air Huarache feature the colour Purple Punch. The tongue and heel strap share the colours black.

The midsole is coloured white and the outsole is coloured black. The heel strap has 'Nike' printed in purple and the midsole has 'Air' printed on it. On the tongue, the 'Air Huarache' logo can be seen, in contrast to the 1991 pair, which had the classic 'Nike Air' label.
