The Pay Check
The Pay Check is a talk show by Sneakerjagers. Here, our host Pay Kolmüs talks to various guests about sneakers, hip-hop and the culture around it. In a relaxed atmosphere, they talk, discuss and laugh about a variety of topics. In previous episodes, the host hosted guests like Edson Sabajo, Neenah and Bamba Al Mansour. This time, Eljay Wix is the guest.
Pay Kolmüs (@payfresh) is at home in a lot of areas. She works in various markets as a music journalist and artist manager. In her career, she has already worked with a lot of big artists worldwide. Pay has around 20 years of experience in the music and entertainment industry and she has built a wide network within the music and culture sector.
In her career as a music journalist, Pay has had the opportunity to speak to major artists such as Ice Cube, Nas, Ne-Yo and Public Enemy. As a DJ, she has made mixtapes for several artists and had her own radio show. Today, she is a member of the Supervisory Board at the Melkweg, one of Amsterdam's biggest hip-hop venues. As an artist consultant, Pay also helps creative talents strategically build their names, work and careers.
Pay is a mentor and lecturer at Master The Mix Academy, The Foundation and ICMA in the UK. She has a great passion for sneakers, especially the Nike Air Max 1, her all-time favourite silhouette.
Eljay Wix
The next episode of The Pay Check features Eljay Wix (@eljaywix) as a guest. Eljay has been active in the Dutch rap scene for some 38 years. She was one of the first female MCs in the Netherlands and was named the first Moluccan 'femcee' in the world. As the first Dutch female rapper, Eljay started a girl group in the Netherlands together with Shirley D, Baby Love, Shenna, Msdee (beatboxer) and Peggy Lee (beatboxer).
Peggy Lee later started a group with Cherryl Lee and after that she switched to Cookie Crew. This British rap group was brought to the Netherlands by Eljay's manager Norville Small, along with DJ Pogo Face One and Money Love.
Eljay started rapping when she was 12 years old. In her career, she has collaborated with many big artists, including Mr Wave, Kool Keith and All Star Fresh. In the 1980s, Eljay was one of the first female MCs to appear on television in the Netherlands in programmes such as De Ver Van Mijn Bed Show, Sjappoo, Sonja op Maandag and Hollandse Nieuwe. A documentary about Eljay is currently being made by none other than Mr Wave.
Eljay has to this her own clothing line; SGS - STAR GOLD STATUS (@stargoldstatus), which stands for 'Heavenly STAR: A heart of pure GOLD righteousness STATUS'. She also has a passion for sneakers and is the current manager of the Sneaker Lounge in Amsterdam.
