Marvel and adidas are working on a new collection built around the Superstar. The Marvel x adidas Superstar collection arrives in three colorways inspired by Dr. Doom, Shuri and Ant-Man. The release of the Marvel x adidas Superstar is linked to Avengers: Doomsday, which hits cinemas in December.

A logical choice. The Superstar debuted in 1969 as a basketball shoe and is instantly recognisable by its rubber shell toe. That clean base leaves plenty of room for each character's details.

Every pair gets a leather upper in the character's colours. The Dr. Doom version leans on black and green, the tones of his armour and cloak. Studs and charms sit on the Three Stripes, the heel counter and around the eyestays. A metallic character badge decorates the tongue.
The packaging plays its part too. The shoes are presented like an action figure in a box, complete with Marvel graphics. A nice touch for anyone who doesn't bin the box straight away.

Inspired by the comics
Avengers: Doomsday hits cinemas in December, but the shoes are inspired by the comic book versions of the characters. You can see it on the boxes too, which show the heroes as drawn comic figures.
Dr. Doom's real name is Victor von Doom. He rules the fictional nation of Latveria and has been the arch-enemy of the Fantastic Four since 1962. His green cloak and metal armour return in the black and green colour scheme. In Avengers: Doomsday, he is played by Robert Downey Jr.
Shuri is the younger sister of King T'Challa, the Black Panther, and one of the brightest minds in Wakanda. In the comics she also takes on the role of Black Panther herself, which is why the Black Panther emblem sits on her box.
Ant-Man debuted in 1962 as scientist Hank Pym. Thanks to his own invention, he can shrink to the size of an ant. In the films, Paul Rudd plays Scott Lang, who takes over Hank Pym's suit and becomes Ant-Man. His box shows him in the classic red suit.
When does the collection drop?
There is no official release date for the Marvel x adidas Superstar in the Netherlands and Europe yet. adidas hasn't announced the collaboration itself either. The drop is expected at the end of December, around the film's release. A recommended price in euros and the style codes are still unknown.
Dr. Doom, Shuri and Ant-Man are probably not the only characters. The collection is said to expand later with additional styles and heroes.
Once the Marvel x adidas Superstar goes live, you'll most likely find it at adidas. Until then, you can already browse the current Superstar models there.
