KAWS and Uniqlo launch the KAWS UNIVERSE UT collection on September 17. From 08:00 the KAWS UNIVERSE UT line is available online and in stores. For adults the collection consists of four t-shirts and three sweaters, and alongside the familiar COMPANION there are new characters this time around. That is exactly what makes this drop interesting for anyone who has followed the series for a while.

The new figures are inspired by the earth, the moon and the sun: three things that, according to KAWS, we all share. The idea revolves around warmth, connection and a shared spirit, translated into playful colours and the recognisable, rounded linework he is known for. The prints stand out without shouting. That works well with the simple silhouette of a UT shirt, which gives the artwork plenty of room.

The line-up is broad. For adults there are four t-shirts in 100% cotton at €19.90 and three sweaters at €34.90. The kids collection has three t-shirts at €12.90 and three sweaters at €19.90, so the whole family can join in. There are also three bag charms at €19.90 to brighten up your bag or backpack. Good to know: you can buy a maximum of two pieces per colour per customer, so decide at home which prints you really want.

A refreshed KAWS universe

KAWS and Uniqlo have thankfully managed to refresh the new collection with some new characters in the universe. My favourite? I think the KAWS UNIVERSE UT Graphic T-Shirt in green.

The partnership is not new. KAWS has worked with Uniqlo since 2016 and is now the brand's first Artist in Residence. You can tell from the execution: large, colourful prints you recognise instantly, at a price almost anyone can manage. Anyone who missed earlier drops gets another chance here to bring home affordable KAWS work. For some it is simply a nice shirt, for others a small piece of art to collect.

UNIQLO
