Welcome back, music lovers, to a brand new episode of The Turnover. This week, instead of a guest, we have the man himself, DJ Turne, playing an amazing set for you. Turne will turn up the heat with songs from the legendary hip-hop duo, OutKast!
OutKast is a, now disbanded, hip-hop duo consisting of Atlanta-based rappers André "3000" Benjamin (formerly known as Dré) and Antwan "Big Boi" Patton. The duo was formed in 1992 and was active until 2007 when they went on a hiatus and both pursued solo careers. However, they came together once again in 2014 to celebrate their 20th anniversary. That year they went on to perform at more than 40 festivals worldwide, starting with Coachella Festival in California. After their last performance in October 2014, OutKast continued their hiatus.
OutKast is often seen as one of the most influential hip-hop acts of all time. They helped popularize southern-style hip-hop with their intricate lyricism, memorable melodies, and positive messages. They also received critical acclaim and commercial success from the mid-90s and early 00s while experimenting with various genres like funk, psychedelia, jazz, and techno.
OutKast is also one of the most decorated hip-hop groups of all time with 6 Grammy Awards. Rolling Stone magazine ranked them at number 7 on their '20 Greatest Duos of All Time'. In their time together, they created 6 studio albums and a greatest hits release, which received a total of over 20 million record sales.
