20th Anniversary - KCDC Skateshop X Nike SB Dunk High

Places where people exchange ideas and share a passion. One of these places is the KCDC skateshop in Brooklyn, New York City. In 2021, the girls of KCDC will celebrate the shop's 20th anniversary and will soon deliver a new sneaker in collaboration with Nike SB!

KCDC Skateshop Brooklyn, New York City Front

The KCDC Skateshop

In 2001, Amy Ellington opened the doors of KCDC Skateshop in the Williamsburg neighbourhood of Brooklyn, NYC for the very first time. Since the day it opened, the store owner, along with her team/friends and their community-minded thinking, immediately helped unite and, most importantly, revitalise the Brooklyn scene.

Now, a whole twenty years later, nothing at all has changed in these exemplary approaches. Moreover, KCDC Brooklyn already has a few projects under its belt that are worth mentioning.

The founder of the first skate shop in NYC to be opened by a woman, KCDC has always championed the mental health benefits that come with the inclusive nature of skateboarding. As a constant champion of diversity in skateboarding, KCDC aims to promote the well-being of all women and youth in New York through events and programmes that support the physical and mental health of skateboarders and the local community.

Over the past 20 years, KCDC has organised some of the most progressive events in the skateboarding industry. From yoga for skateboarders and discussions on racism and skateboarding to indoor skate nights and countless art and photo shows.

@kcdcskateshop

"We don't take the responsibility for the New York skate community lightly. The friends we've made, the creatives we've met, the kids we've fostered over the years are a daily source of inspiration. We thank everyone who has ever set foot in our shop for their love and support."

KCDC Skateshop X Nike SB Dunk High | DH7742-600

The KCDC Skateshop X Nike SB Dunk High features a brand new team-up with Nike and their SB label, focusing on different shades of pink on the upper, reminiscent of the colour of the skateshop's exterior. (see above)

Starting at the base, the shoe comes with pink suede that extends over the entire heel cap to the toebox. KCDC also provides us with pink overlays made of soft suede.

Black accents serve as a contrasting element of the SB Dunks and are noticeable on the laces, smooth leather swooshes and midsole. The usual Nike SB branding can be found on the tongues of the kicks, but the words "DUNK HIGH" have been replaced with "KCDC 2001" lettering underneath.

The final design elements are the official KCDC logo on the extended heel tab and a dark gum outsole.
