New Balance continues to release new versions of the 1906. Following the success of the popular 1906L, a mix between a loafer and sneaker, images of a new variant surfaced in September 2024: the New Balance 1906M.
The design of this sneaker has a clear connection to the military. This is because of New Balance's 2018 collaboration with the US Army. Back then, they designed the 950v2 with a Fantomfit overlay.
This overlay can also be found on the 1906M, with the 'M' likely standing for 'Military'. The overlay provides light support and extra comfort without making the design feel too heavy. It gives the silhouette a streamlined, minimalist look, distinctly different from the 1906R.
Despite these changes, some familiar elements can still be seen, such as the TPU heel counter, leather toe cap, NLock lacing system, and comfortable foam sole.
