Taka Hayashi x Vans DIY 'Marshmallow': Your very own style

The Japanese artist Taka Hayashi has continued his long lasting collaboration with Vans and together they present us this week with two very special styles. In the Taka Hayashi x Vans DIY 'Marshmallow' style we get a low and a high silhouette, both with a 'marshmallow' upper and in the DIY (do it yourself) look. You can read right here what all this means in detail, and I promise you: It will be exciting!

But first, as usual, the release info at a glance: The two kicks will be released on Saturday, September 5, 2020 at 00:00 am. The price for the Taka Hayashi X Vans DIY Sk8-Hi 'Marshmallow' will be 210€ and the low version, the Taka Hayashi X Vans DIY Low 'Marshmallow' will be available for 190€. Check out all the retailers that will sell these styles via the buttons:

Do it yourself: When art knows no boundaries

Taka Hayashi is an artist who has often acted out in street style. He was born in Yokohama, Japan, but young Hayashi came to America at the age of 10. In an interview, the artist says about himself that he discovered his own creativity at the age of 5. In his career he has worked with various designers and brands and created some chic skate styles.

The new Vans come with a white upper and contrasting seams in blue and red. That's also where the 'marshmallow' comes from, because the popular campfire treats often have this color combination. Not bad at all, but that's not even all! Because as mentioned above, the new sneakers come in DIY style, which means you can also do your own artistic work here!

So this is where your creativity is needed! The upper of the kicks is made of velcro tape. You can imagine it like the one, soft side of a velcro fastener. This style ensures that you can attach the different patches to the sneakers as you like. Which patches? Well, dear community, they're with the kicks and with them you can style your Vans as you like. And the best: the patches come in typical Vans styles, like a SK8-Hi toe box, checkerboard designs, the signature stripe and so on!

Taka Hayashi x Vans DIY 'Marshmallow' - the art collab

How colourful, fancy or classic your Vans will look in the end is completely up to you! A pretty cool idea I think and artistically a great project 🎨! A small fun fact here: the famous checkerboard style from Vans also has its roots in the creativity of some skaters, who painted that on their Vans. Later, the brand took over this style and it became iconic.

By the way: thanks to the feature of the new Vans styles you can always change the patches later and fix them at other places!

The two collaborators encourage all of us here to be creative and have our own style! If you are interested in the former collaboration of Vans and Taka Hayashi, here are some of the styles in our sneaker collection.

Just a reminder, the new Taka Hayashi x Vans DIY 'Marshmallow' styles will be released Saturday, September 5th at 00:00 am. Below you can check out all retailers again, let's go!
