New Balance Korea releases the New Balance Sleeping Moc on November 2, alongside a second model: the Sleeping Jane. Both winter shoes feature a padded upper that recalls a sleeping bag.
Whether the New Balance Sleeping Moc will also reach Europe is still unknown.
The news comes from New Balance Korea, which has been pushing fashion-led women's footwear over the last few seasons. The Breeze and Winter Breeze came before.
International media refer to the release as a 'Padded Shoe Pack'.
The Sleeping Moc is a laceless slip-on. Horizontal stitching divides the upper into puffed-up chambers, much like a down jacket.
A cord with a toggle runs around the opening, so you can pull the shoe tighter. Rounded toe, low profile.
Inside and outside come in contrasting colours; a yellow lining stands out most in the campaign images.
Mary Jane and polka dots
The Sleeping Jane uses the same padded construction but borrows the silhouette of a Mary Jane, with a strap running across the instep.
According to reports, the Sleeping Moc comes in black, grey and yellow. A fourth version, 'Dots', puts large white dots on a black upper and also has a strap across the top.
Sources differ on which model the Dots actually is. Style codes have not been shared yet.
The idea isn't entirely new. Last winter, New Balance Korea already released a New Balance Sleeping Moc in water-repellent nylon, in brown and black, on a thick foam sole.
A grey suede version sold out at the time.
The inspiration comes from vintage outdoor footwear, translated into something you simply wear every day.
For Europe, it's a matter of waiting. New Balance has not announced a European release date or a price in euros.
