Why you need the new New Balance 2010 Gore-Tex for autumn and winter

Wet, cold and dark: exactly the weather New Balance is now preparing the 2010 for. The New Balance 2010 Gore-Tex arrives this autumn in three colorways: Black/Field Green, Mushroom/Timberwolf and Phantom/Black Cement. All three get a waterproof Gore-Tex membrane, making the New Balance 2010 Gore-Tex more of a winter shoe than ever.

Within the line-up, the 2010 is still a fairly new model. It debuted in spring 2025 in Vintage Khaki and Brown and is built around ABZORB cushioning in a runner silhouette that clearly nods to the 2000s.

New colorways and collaborations have followed at a steady pace since. A weather-ready version was the logical next step.

Gore-Tex is nothing new for New Balance. The 2002R and the 1906R, among others, have already received such a membrane, and now the 2010 joins that list.

The idea behind it is simple: water stays out, while moisture from inside can escape. For a sneaker you also want to wear through the city on a bleak November day, that is a sensible upgrade.

The recognisable silhouette barely changes; the updates are mainly in materials and colour use.

Three sides of autumn

The Black/Field Green (style code U20105IS) is the most understated of the trio. Mesh, leather underlays and sturdy leather overlays run through various shades of dark grey.

The N logos are black with a reflective finish, so they only stand out when light hits them. The green in the name? You really have to look for it. At most, it shows up as a subtle accent.

The Gore-Tex labels on the lateral side stand out. They make it clear at a glance that this pair is made for rain and slush, not just dry pavements.

The Mushroom/Timberwolf (style code U20105HA) opts for a warmer palette. Various khaki tones run across the panels of the upper, while a light olive green frames the collar.

The same green returns in the sculpted midsole, so the shoe looks like one cohesive whole. At European retailers, this version is also listed as Light Mushroom.

Third in line is the Phantom/Black Cement (style code U20103KC). According to New Balance, this version pairs a mesh upper with nubuck and synthetic overlays.

Underneath sits the ABZORB midsole with ABZORB SBS at the heel and forefoot, finished with reflective accents. When this colorway will arrive in Europe has not been confirmed yet.

Where Black/Field Green feels practical and urban, Mushroom/Timberwolf suits outfits in browns and greens.

That way, the New Balance 2010 Gore-Tex offers a different angle for every taste without changing the base.

Black/Field Green and Mushroom/Timberwolf have now been released. You can buy them at New Balance and at various retailers.

If you already knew the 2010 as a sporty retro runner, the New Balance 2010 Gore-Tex gives you a version that can handle autumn weather too. Three calm colorways, all of them waterproof.
