Update October 3, 2025 – Over six months after the first Nike Moon Shoe appeared in the Jacquemus campaign, we are finally seeing the release of Nike’s oldest shoe ever at the French fashion house.
No fewer than three colorways of the sneaker will be released: ‘Black’, ‘Pale Yellow 2’, and ‘Dark Red’.
The Nike Moon Shoe has a rich history. First unveiled in 1972, the sneaker has a unique design story. For instance, the sole, characterized by square nubs, was reportedly made using a waffle iron by Bill Bowermann. A creative method, but that’s not surprising coming from Bowermann.
Over the past decades, the Moon Shoe has served as inspiration for various Nike silhouettes. Now the silhouette returns, and what better way than in collaboration with Jacquemus? The sneaker features a deconstructed upper with retro Swooshes on both sides and Jacquemus logos on the tongue.

The ‘Black’ colorway uses off-white and green accents. The ‘Pale Yellow 2’, perfectly in line with the current ‘Butter Yellow’ trend, features black details, and the ‘Dark Red’ has off-white and black elements. A flat gum sole completes the sneaker, perfectly matching the low-top trend that seems central in 2025.
Release
The Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoe in the colorways 'Black', 'Pale Yellow 2', and 'Dark Red' will release on October 6, 2025, at Nike and selected retailers.

Jacquemus Is Bringing Back the Legendary Nike Moon Shoe

Original post February 12, 2025 - Jacquemus and Nike have once again joined forces. This time they are bringing back a piece of sneaker history: the 1972 Nike Moon Shoe. Once designed by Nike founder Bill Bowerman, this shoe was known for its revolutionary waffle sole.
Now this icon gets a new look with a stylish update from Jacquemus, bringing together old-school vibes and modern fashion.
Vintage feel
The Jacquemus x Nike Moon Shoe feels like a treasure from the past but with a fresh twist. The yellow, slightly weathered color creates a vintage look as if the sneaker has already experienced a lifetime of adventures.
The iconic black Swoosh remains, while subtle branding and luxurious materials give the shoe a refined finish. This is not your average reissue, but a fresh take on a piece of Nike history.

The Moon Shoe recently appeared at Paris Fashion Week, where it caught the attention of sneakerheads and fashion lovers alike. With a mix of retro and modern details, the sneaker has already built up the hype.
Story behind the Moon Shoe
The story goes that Bill Bowerman experimented with melted rubber in his wife's waffle iron, leading to the waffle sole we know today. The name 'Moon Shoe' comes from the distinctive prints left by the sole, which are similar to the footprints made by astronauts on the moon during the historic moon landing.

The shoe made its debut at the 1972 Olympics, the same year Nike launched. The pair immediately stood out for its innovative design and performance features.
Jacquemus x Nike
This is not the first time Jacquemus and Nike have collaborated. The Jacquemus x Nike Air Max 1 '86 and the 2022 Jacquemus x Nike Air Humara were already big successes. So the question was not whether the duo will release another sneaker, but when.
At the time of writing, Jacquemus and Nike have not yet confirmed details about the launch of their new 'Jacumoon' silhouette. According to a report from SneakerMarketRO, Jacquemus and Nike plan to launch the 'Jacumoon' by the end of 2025.
