adidas is releasing a special Messi Argentina jersey as a tribute to Lionel Messi's international career. The Messi Argentina jersey is available from 25 September, just over a week before his farewell to the Argentina national team on 6 October.

Why does this shirt carry so much weight? Messi made his Argentina debut in 2005 and went on to become his country's most-capped player and all-time top scorer. Yet a major trophy took a long time to arrive: he lost the 2014 World Cup final and three Copa América finals. Then it all fell into place, with the Copa América in 2021 and 2024 and, in 2022, the World Cup in Qatar as captain. Since then, many Argentines mention him in the same breath as Maradona.
The design starts from the Argentine flag. The sky-blue and white stripes are joined by a large Sol de Mayo, the Sun of May from the flag, which runs across both the front and the back. In place of the familiar adidas performance logo sits Messi's own signature logo.
Gold takes the lead in the details. The federation crest, player numbering and trim all carry gold accents. The shirt also features a commemorative sign-off: the number 10, framed by laurel branches and the Sol de Mayo. That keeps Argentina's classic palette recognisable while giving it a more celebratory edge.
Built like a match shirt
Beneath all the symbolism sits a proper match shirt. adidas uses CLIMACOOL+ technology with engineered stretch fabrics and 3D body mapping for ventilation. Perforated 3-Stripes panels and strategically placed mesh zones help airflow further. So it is not purely a collector's piece for the wall.
The Messi Argentina jersey does not stand alone. The Special Edition Collection also includes pre-match apparel, a culture wear range, shorts and socks. In the campaign images Messi wears a matching track top and track pants, among other pieces. That lets you take the look beyond the shirt itself.
