The Nike Air Huarache 'Doernbecher' is a special release of the classic Nike Air Huarache model designed in collaboration with Doernbecher Children's Hospital in Portland, Oregon. The sneaker is part of the annual Doernbecher Freestyle collection, in which young patients at the hospital are invited to work with Nike Employee Design volunteers to design their own Nike sneaker.

The design of the Nike Air Huarache 'Doernbecher' is based on 13-year-old Dario Villaseñor Valdivia's favourite things and interests. The sneaker's upper features a colourful palette with a mix of 'Kumquat', 'Cinnamon', 'Starfish' and 'Rough Green'.

The colorway also features some eye-catching details, such as metallic silver overlay with YouTube buttons and Dario's initials, a stickman on the toebox, orange-shaped patch on the tongue and fuzzy brown chenille details on the side panels and sock lining in homage to Dario's favourite cuddly toy.

The phrase 'Siempre Fuerte', which translates to 'Always Strong', can be found on the shoe's outsole and is inspired by the way Dario approached life during his battle against juvenile myelomonocytic leukaemia.

The Nike Air Huarache 'Doernbecher' is not only a stylish colorway, but also a symbol of hope and inspiration.

The collection features 5 other inspirational sneakers, including the Nike Air Presto by Kylee Young, Air Jordan 1 Low by Riddhi Mahajan, Nike Air Max 90 by Emerson Harrell, Nike Air Foamposite One by Coley Miller and the Nike Zoom Vomero 5 by Jaren Heacock.
