After the return of the New Balance 1300JP earlier this year, the luxurious sneaker is making a comeback, this time even more exclusive than before. In collaboration with Sashiko Gals, a Japanese community connected through the craft of traditional sashiko embroidery, New Balance is releasing two fully handmade pairs.
Alongside the sneaker, the duo is also introducing jackets, of which only four have been produced.
With the release of the 1300JP, Sashiko Gals manages to bring tradition and fashion together in a remarkable way. Last year, they collaborated with C.P. Company, applying their characteristic stitching to six archival pieces from the brand.
The New Balance 1300JP features handmade sashiko fabric patches across the entire upper, executed in white, orange, and indigo blue. The centuries-old technique, which literally means “little stitches,” gives the sneaker a luxurious and classic look.
The varsity jackets are also completely hand-stitched using the same technique.
The two pairs of the Sashiko Gals x New Balance 1300JP and the four jackets will be raffled exclusively at New Balance Harajuku. All proceeds from the raffle will go to MOONSHOT Inc., a program supporting sashiko artists in developing their craft.
