For The City - FTC Skateshop San Francisco

Who or what is the FTC?

As you can easily see from the picture, this is a shop/store with pictures of skateboarders in the window. Put one and one together and you realise that it must be a skate shop. Even the question of what the acronym "FTC" means has been answered in a very simple way with the picture. FTC = For The City!

In 1987, 34 years ago, Kent Uyehara opened the very first FTC skate shop in the middle of San Francisco, USA. But what is for many just a shop with skateboarding articles was and is for the owner and the whole skateboarding community a place of gathering and exchange.

Kent himself also indicates to this day that since he opened the shop, it has never been about profit or big money. For him, the support of the community has always been in the foreground. He wanted to create exactly what his shop and his other stores in Barcelona and in three of Japan's biggest cities stand for today:

"..quality clothing and authentic products born from the heart and soul of the streets."

Fun Fact

The connoisseurs among you surely know, or have already had the vague suspicion, that something really big could be associated with the shop just recently. Last year, the FTC Skateshop in San Francisco was the only shop in the world that was allowed to release the 'Orange Bear' or the orange version of the Grateful Dead x Nike SB Dunk Low!

Only for the Locals just now, the release was raffled off within an "Exclusive Drop per 24hours In-Store Raffle". You remember? That was a real hype!

At first glance, some of you might melt away, because in my opinion, the people from FTC have already done an extremely good job here, if you just look at the colorway. But the kicks have a lot more specials and features hidden away than 'just' cool colours! Let's start our short analysis with the base of the shoes:

On the base, as well as on the tongue of the SB Dunk Low, a light blue coloured, soft, qualitative suede can be found, which also harmonises with the label tag on the tongue. This comes in the same colour and with a white Nike SB logo with additional FTC lettering on it.

The white overlays on the upper are a real eye-catcher! Here, the two brands provide us with a white smooth leather with perforated tiles on it, which matches perfectly with the bright white midsole and the laces in the same colour.

Super details

With all the special features, it's hard to know where to go from here. But let's continue with the Swoosh, which is perfectly showcased here. The FTC x Nike SB Dunk Low comes with a silver Swoosh, but we're not yet sure if it's even made of reflective 3M material. In any case, it looks extremely good next to the blue and white tones!

The latest colour of the new SB Dunk Low is an eye-catching yellow. The sneaker has been given the bright tone on the inside of the tongue, in the entire sockliner and on the heel cap. Another important detail is the towel-like, soft material used in the sockliner, which is perfectly complemented by the yellow lacetips.
