New images have surfaced of a new Sacai x Nike Vaporwaffle! This time the Sacai x Nike Vaporwaffle gets a design in collaboration with former fashion designer Jean Paul Gaultier.
From an early age, Jean Paul Gaultier sent all his designs to famous stylists. In 1970, he was discovered by Pierre Cardin and took him on as an assistant. Jean Paul Gaultier released his first collection under his own name in 1976. At the time, his style was challenging, innovative and, for some, shocking. Jean Paul Gaultier worked with overweight models with lots of tattoos, among other things. Nowadays, many may know him for his wonderful perfume. In 2020, Jean Paul Gaultier has collaborated with Supreme, among others, releasing a clothing collection.
Chitose Abe, creative director of Sacai, is also currently working with Jean Paul Gaultier on the Couture Collection. Chitose Abe is taking over this collection, as Jean Paul Gaultier has retired from the fashion world. Unfortunately, this collection is delayed, but we expect to hear more about it in the coming weeks.
Sacai x Jean Paul Gaultier x Nike Vaporwaffle
The Sacai x Nike Vaporwaffle has a nice designer makeover. What is immediately noticeable is that the sneaker has changed from a low top to a mid top. Black nylon is used for the base, while the rest of the upper is made of black suede and leather. Thick contrast stitching across the entire upper is another highlight. Like all previous releases, the sneaker features dual elements such as Swooshes, tongue, laces and sole. The double tongue features the Sacai x Nike logo and that of Jean Paul Gaultier. Underneath the upper is the split double sole in a yellowed colour.
