COMME des GARÇONS HOMME releases an all-black colorway on the New Balance 57/40

COMME des GARÇONS and New Balance are once again teaming up! In 2019 they released one colorway for the MS997 model, and another colorway in 2020 on the Pro Court Cup model. This year, the two are back and are releasing a New Balance 57/40 together.

The Japanese fashion label COMME des GARÇONS was founded in 1969 by Rei Kawakubo. COMME des GARÇONS means "Like Boys" in French. A menswear line was added in 1978 when the brand began to gain more popularity. In 1981, COMME des GARÇONS had their debut show in Paris. There was a lot of criticism on the brand because Rei Kawakubo used black and unfinished fabrics. Nevertheless, the brand is now on top of the best luxury brands and we see different collaborations every year.

The most famous collaboration of COMME des GARÇONS is the one with Converse. CDG has put the heart of CDG Play on the side of the sneaker. The brand of Rei Kawakubo has also worked together with Nike more often. In 2018, the two brands released a colorway on the Air Max 180.

Like most COMME des GARÇONS collaborations, the sneakers get a black colorway on them. This is again the case with the New Balance 57/40. Black suede overlays cover the black nylon base on the upper. We find the letter N again in black on the midfoot, and the CDGH and New Balance branding is placed in white on the tongue. Moving down, we see that the upper rests on a black midfoot and outsole.
