Off-White

Off-White

High-end fashion label Off-White was founded in 2013 by American designer Virgil Abloh.
Off-White was considered the first brand to combine high-end with streetwear, a combination that resulted in modern designs characterised by the use of terms in quotation marks.
Abloh's designs are also very popular in the sneaker world. From 'The Ten' collection, a collaboration with Nike (2017), to his own silhouettes; Off-White is a well-known and beloved brand among sneaker fans worldwide.

OFF-White's designs combine high-end fashion with streetwear - a combination that results in unique designs.
Abloh's works are easily recognized by modern elements such as zip-ties, PVC tapes and the use of quotes and terms.
Notably, the "AIR" detail on various Nike collaborations is characteristic of Abloh's work, as are the terms "KEEP OFF" and "SCULPTURE."

The History of Off-White

2012

In 2012, American designer Virgil Abloh, then working at Fendi and Kanye West's agency DONDA, started his own brand called OFF-White. At the time, the brand was still going under the name PYREX Vision. In his first works, he used Ralph Lauren shirts and gave them unique makeovers, each marked by the PYREX logo.

2013

Off-White made its appearance in Milan, Italy. The brand distinguished itself in the use of modern details such as zip-ties, PVC tape and the use of capital letters in the designs.
A year after OFF-White was founded, Virgil Abloh was selected as a finalist for the LVMH Prize, a great honour for designers worldwide, and opened the first OFF-White stores in Tokyo.

2017

In 2017, Abloh was commissioned by Nike to design some iconic silhouettes from Nike's archives. The result: the OFF-White x Nike 'The Ten' - a collection consisting of ten sneakers, including the Air Jordan 1 High, Air Force 1 and Air Presto, each dressed in OFF-White details.
This collaboration is still seen to this day as one of the most influential crossovers in the sneaker world.

2018

OFF-White joins forces with Swedish interior design company IKEA. The collection comes with items like rugs, a clock bags with the well-known terms like "KEEP OFF" and "SCULPTURES."
In the same year, Abloh is appointed Artistic Director at Louis Vuitton and is responsible for the menswear line. His work at Louis Vuitton was recognisable by thousands and drew inspiration from the streetwear scene.

2020

Nike and OFF-White join forces once again. This time, the Air Jordan 4 appears in a sleek, beige design with OFF-White branding across the silhouette. The sneaker was an instant hit and is still a beloved colorway among sneaker lovers.

Off-White Today

In late 2021, Abloh suddenly passed away at the age of 41. The designer suffered from a rare form of cancer for an extended period of time. In early 2022, his final collection was shown in an elaborate runway that also served as a tribute to Abloh.
After Abloh's death, the OFF-White line was continued by Ib Kamara. OFF-White is still a beloved brand among fans of high-end fashion and streetwear. The brand is also still relevant in the field of sneakers, with one release after another.
