History

1940s: PUMA was founded by Rudolf Dassler in 1948 with its first football boot, which soon became a leading player in the sports footwear industry. Rudolf Dassler designed shoes with his brother Adolf since the 1920s. As a result of the fallout between the two brothers, Rudolf founded Puma and Adolf established Adidas.

1950s - 1960s: PUMA's future in performance-driven shoes was paved in 1952 by the Atom, and six years later by the Super Atom, a lightweight track shoe that revolutionized athletic footwear. A pair of iconic silhouettes was released in 1968: the PUMA Roma, which captured the hearts of athletes, and the PUMA Suede, which became a streetwear icon.

1970s: With the release of the PUMA Clyde in collaboration with NBA player Walt "Clyde" Frazier in the 1970's, PUMA was a key player on the basketball court. PUMA started manufacturing track shoes in 1978 when it introduced the Fast Rider. With its innovative shock-absorbing outsole, it impressed athletes with its performance.

1980s - 1990s: As a pioneer in athletic footwear technology, PUMA introduced the first shoe with a built-in computer chip in 1984, the RS-Computer shoes. Two years later, the Disc System revolutionized lacing mechanisms with its customized fit. In 1991, PUMA introduced trinomic cushioning, which improved runners' comfort and support. Cell technology was released in 1992, enhancing stability and energy return. PUMA was at the forefront of athletic footwear technology in the 1990s.

2000s -2010s: In 2000, PUMA collaborated with Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt to develop the PUMA evoSPEED, a shoe designed to provide speed and optimal performance. In 2007, they launched the Complete series of running shoes. As part of their running shoe line, PUMA introduced Ignite foam technology in 2010 to provide responsive cushioning. With the RS-X series launched in 2018, PUMA reimagined 1980s Running System technology for the modern era.

Today: PUMA prioritizes innovation and performance in the new decade. In 2021, Future Z football boots were launched with FUZIONFIT+ compression bands. The company uses environmentally friendly materials and manufacturing processes. PUMA has always been a footwear leader thanks to its unique combination of style, technology, and performance.

Technology

In the Trinomic midsole, hexagonal cells compress and expand with movement, resulting in excellent cushioning and responsiveness by adapting to the foot and absorbing impact. Many PUMA performance shoes have been equipped with the Trinomic midsole since its introduction in the 1990s.

Do PUMA sneakers run true to size?

Generally, PUMA sneakers tend to run a bit small, so it's recommended you buy a size up than your normal.

Did you know?

Our steps and calories are tracked today using a variety of devices, but in the 80s, such technologies were considered science fiction. Introduced in 1984, the RS-Computer Shoe tracked steps, calories, and running performance despite faith in wearable technologies. Due to its data processing requirements, the model was mostly sold in the US. Today's RS Collection is inspired by 80's RS-Computer shoes.
