The History of the Salomon XT-6
The Salomon XT-6 was first released in 2013, built for long-distance trail runners tackling extreme terrains. It featured an advanced combination of dual-density EVA cushioning, a thermoplastic chassis for midfoot stability, and a Contragrip outsole designed to maintain traction on both wet and loose surfaces.
The shoe's upper was made from a lightweight, abrasion-resistant mesh reinforced with welded overlays, breathable yet tough enough for alpine environments. The Quicklace system allowed runners to tighten or loosen the shoe instantly. Every element was fine-tuned for precision, speed, and reliability.

A favourite among professional trail runners, it began to attract attention in the late 2010s among designers and stylists that were drawn to the aesthetics of utility. The sleek overlays, technical look and aggressive tread of the XT-6 began to be incorporated into editorial looks and runway styling.
Collaborations with avant-garde labels and the rise of gorpcore (a trend celebrating outdoor and technical clothing in urban setting) brought the XT-6 to a global platform. Salomon began offering new colorways on the model that balanced its trail running heritage with modern minimalism; monochrome designs and muted earth tones appeared alongside the original high-contrast trail versions.

The XT-6 was never altered, however. The model remains fundamentally the same piece of engineering designed for the mountains, and its appeal lies in authenticity rather than reinvention. Even in lifestyle iterations, it retains the same silhouette, lacing system, and outsole pattern that made it a favourite among runners. Today, the Salomon XT-6 stands out as a symbol of the convergence between outdoor performance and streetwear sophistication.

Salomon XT-6: Answering Your Questions
Where are Salomon XT-6 made?
The Salomon XT-6 is primarily manufactured in Asia (Vietnam and China), however the design, development and quality control originate in France.
How do Salomon XT-6 fit?
The Salomon XT-6 fits true to size, but have a narrow shape. Those with wide feet may prefer going half a size up for comfort.
Are Salomon XT-6 comfortable?
The XT-6 isn't plush, but precisely cushioned for protection during long activity. The dual-density EVA midsole absorbs impact, while the ACS (Advanced Chassis System) reduces fatigue with a firm underfoot structure. It's comfortable through its support rather than softness.
Are Salomon XT-6 waterproof?
A standard XT-6 is not waterproof, however there are specific Gore-Tex versions which are due to the GORE-TEX membrane in the upper.
Are Salomon XT-6 good for running?
The XT-6 was originally designed as a trail-running shoe, and still performs well on different terrains with excellent traction, strong lateral support and a reliable grip. However, it's not ideal for road running or high-speed racing due to its heavier and firmer construction. It excels in long-distance trail running on mountain terrain rather than pavement.
Are Salomon XT-6 good for hiking?
The XT-6 is excellent for hiking, lighter and more flexible than traditional hiking boots. It has a breathable upper for warm conditions, cushioned sole to reduce foot fatigue, and is build with stability, traction, and durability in mind.
What's the difference between the Salomon XT-6 and XT-4?
The XT-6 is a more advanced and performance-focused model than the XT-4, with dual-density EVA cushioning for a softer ride and an Advanced Chassis System for improved stability and energy return. The XT-4 has a firmer, more rigid midsole and heavier, more structured build that the XT-6, with visible stitching and layered materials compared to the XT-6's sleeker-looking seamless welded overlays.

How do you clean Salomon XT-6?
Cleaning sneakers should always be done by hand. Here's how:
- Remove the laces and use a soft brush (like a toothbrush) to get rid of loose dirt.
- Mix a bit of mild detergent with water, and use a sponge or cloth to gently scrub away marks.
- For suede, use a suede brush (water can damage suede).
- Wipe down with a damp cloth and allow the sneakers to air-dry.
If your sneakers have an odour, sprinkle a bit of baking soda inside and leave it overnight. Shake it out the next day. Alternatively, silica gel or activated charcoal bags work just as well to absorb moisture and neutralise odour.
Laces can be washed separately using detergent, or bright white laces can be soaked briefly in a 1:5 bleach-to-water solution - just rinse thoroughly afterward.
Avoid using the washing machine, especially for leather or suede models, as this can cause damage. Even canvas or fabric versions are at risk, so stick to hand-cleaning where possible.
