This past weekend, the biggest fashion spectacle returned once again: the Met Gala. Each year, the Metropolitan Museum of Art is transformed into a red carpet filled with the most spectacular and talked-about outfits – and this year was no different.
The theme for this year was 'Superfine: Tailoring Black Style', and with A$AP Rocky, Colman Domingo, Lewis Hamilton, and Pharrell Williams as co-chairs, this edition was destined to be a success.
Met Gala 2025
I don’t think I’ve been this excited about a Met Gala theme in a long time. Don’t get me wrong: last year’s theme, 'Sleeping Beauties: Reawakening Fashion', resulted in bizarre, almost fairytale-like looks, but this year’s theme speaks to me on a much deeper level.
The theme was inspired by a recently unveiled exhibition at the museum’s Costume Institute about the “Black dandy,” which, according to Vogue—the host of the benefit—explores the importance of clothing and style in shaping Black identities across the Atlantic diaspora. It was the first theme in years to primarily focus on menswear.
The “Black dandy” theme was interpreted in completely unique ways by each guest. It’s nearly impossible to choose, but these looks truly stood out to me:
Teyana Taylor

Possibly the best look of the night: Teyana Taylor in Marc Jacobs. The actress and singer hosted the red carpet livestream for Vogue—and she did it in style. The custom ensemble was designed in collaboration with costume designer Ruth E. Carter, known for her work with filmmaker Spike Lee and the Black Panther franchise, where she crafted modern pop culture references to the Black dandy aesthetic.
The outfit was complemented by a burgundy cape bearing the inscription “Harlem Rose,” a reference to her 2018 track A Rose in Harlem.
Zendaya

Someone who never really misses at the Met Gala (or any red carpet, for that matter) is Zendaya. The singer and actress made a statement in a white Louis Vuitton suit, paired with an oversized hat. A more understated look for her—think back to her Cinderella gown from 2019—but it was absolutely perfect for the theme.
Rihanna +1
The queen of the Met Gala, Rihanna, was (thankfully) back this year and made another statement. Not so much with her outfit—although her Marc Jacobs dress definitely ranks in my top five favorite looks—but it was mainly her baby bump that stole the spotlight.

The singer revealed that she and A$AP Rocky are expecting their third child, and what better way to announce it than on the biggest red carpet of the year? For those who thought her Super Bowl Halftime Show reveal couldn’t be topped, they were wrong.
A$AP Rocky
A$AP Rocky of course had to make the list. As one of the co-chairs this year, it was expected that he would go all in with his outfit. And that’s exactly what he did. The artist wore a design from his own label, AWGE, paying tribute to Harlem, the place where he grew up.
Paired with Oxford shoes, also self-designed in collaboration with Christian Louboutin, and jewelry from BVLGARI, Flacko was once again one of the best-dressed this year.
Diana Ross

Diana Ross made her return to the red carpet after 22 years, and she did so with no subtlety. The singer appeared in a Sxteen Eleven gown with a train over five meters long, adorned with the names of her family. Dressed in feathers, diamonds, and a matching hat, Diana made a comeback that’s impossible to forget.
Damson Idris
The Met Gala wouldn't be the Met Gala without a dramatic reveal, and this year, Damson Idris took on that role. The F1 actor appeared in a racing suit by Tommy Hilfiger, complete with a helmet adorned with 20,000 Swarovski crystals.
With the help of two assistants, he revealed his second outfit: once again a Tommy Hilfiger suit, but this time more in line with the theme of the evening.
Lewis Hamilton
F1 driver Lewis Hamilton was also one of the co-hosts this year, so he was under extra pressure with his outfit. Thankfully for us, this driver performs exceptionally well under pressure, and his look was exactly what it needed to be: elegant, on-theme, and a touch cult.

Designed by Wales Bonner, styled with a beret and striking jewelry, Lewis also managed to turn heads off the racetrack.
Doechii
Maybe I’m biased, as I’m a fan of everything this woman puts out, but the outfit in which Doechii made her Met Gala debut was, once again, a hit. The rapper and singer is often seen in designs by Thom Browne and Lacoste, so many expected her to appear in one of these brands. But nothing could be further from the truth.
Dressed in a Louis Vuitton suit that combined the brand's two most iconic patterns—the classic LV monogram on the jacket and the damier checkered pattern on the shorts—Doechii made an impression. Styled with Mary Janes, a burgundy bow, and a Louis Vuitton bag, her debut was a success.
Pharrell en crew
Pharrell Williams is one of the most influential men in the fashion world, and he proves that time and time again. Since becoming the creative director at Louis Vuitton, he of course wore his own design for the French fashion house. The double-breasted blazer was entirely hand-crafted and adorned with a staggering 100,000 pearls. The jewelry? Of course, from Tiffany & Co.
On his own Instagram account, he shared a photo of himself and his fellow Louis Vuitton wearers, including Doechii, Future, Pusha T, and Jeremy Allen White.
Colman Domingo
Finally, cohost Colman Domingo. After making his debut at the Met Gala last year, he was asked to return as a cohost this year—a role he fulfilled with full conviction.

Colman appeared in two striking outfits, starting with a custom Valentino cape, a tribute to the late fashion journalist André Leon Talley. Under the cape, he wore a Valentino suit, finished with a polka dot flower on his chest.
Other names that are certainly worth mentioning include Andre 3000—who arrived on the red carpet with a piano on his back—Zoe Saldaña, Lorde, Coco Jones, Emma Chamberlain, and Jodie Turner-Smith. I’m already looking forward to next year.
The Met Gala is an annual benefit event for the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York. It is a leading fashion event where celebrities appear in the most extravagant outfits that align with a changing theme.
This year’s Met Gala theme was "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style." The theme draws inspiration from the recently unveiled exhibition at the museum’s Costume Institute about the “Black dandy.”
