New Balance has recently inspired us with one or the other top collaboration. Now the new Salehe Bembury x New Balance 2002R is the next special release. The kicks are perhaps the most eye-catching NB release of the year 2020 and come from the pen of Salehe Bembury, the Vice President for shoes at Versace. Salehe Bembury x New Balance 2002R - the Details
Most Versace sneakers are over-revved and this is also reflected in this New Balance 2002R. It is also special that this is the first time that Bembury has immortalised his name on a sneaker. Salehe Bembury has worked for Kanye West at the Yeezy Gap in 2015 and has already designed some special luxury sneaker styles. In the autumn of 2017 Bembury was appointed head of trainer design at Versace and since 2020 he is officially: Vice president of sneakers and men's footwear at Versace. So currently we can admire his talents in Collab with New Balance.
He has incorporated his Versace background into the design here, I think! The colour palette of the kicks is inspired by the colours of Antelope Canyon. Antelope Canyon is located near Arizona in the USA. That is why most of the sneaker has been given an orange colour. Why exactly this inspiration? We will get to that in a moment! We also find this special canyon on the box of the shoes. Matching it are accents in blue, which embody the sky.
The New Balance 2002 is a retro running silhouette that has only recently come back into focus. A great sneaker for this collaboration! The base of the upper is made of a coarse mesh fabric with overlays of different types of suede.
The letter N on the mid-foot remains and consists also of thick suede. It has a striking blue colour that contrasts beautifully with the rest. The upper part of the tongue comes in brown leather and contains the New Balance lettering. New Balance promotes the sneakers with the quote: 'Peace Be The Journey'. Matching the design of course, but there is more to it than that. Salehe Bembury also wants to express his love for hiking with this sneaker design.
