We've all been waiting a long time for Nike to finally release dates for the Grateful Dead x Nike SB Dunk Low 'Orange Bear' as well as for his colorful, fluffy Dead Bear friends. One leak after the other has made us sweat the last months and made us really hyped on the kicks! And last week the time had finally come with new news for you! Buckle up and get ready for one of the most hyped and special releases of this year! (Below you'll also find pictures of the other colorways the Dunk Silhouette has been given in this collaboration and will release, this week, 24th of July).
Let's just start from the beginning. Take a look at this picture:
And? Nothing special, looks exactly the same as on the cover, only much less aesthetic. Then why am I showing you the picture at all?
This picture of the Grateful Dead x Nike SB Dunk Low 'Orange Bear' was posted by solebyjc already 2 months ago! It's amazing how much earlier you can get the kickz on hand, if you have the right connections, isn't it?
In any case, until yesterday it was not clear whether we could get all the colorways or even one of the sneakers in Europe or anywhere else outside Japan or the USA. Luckily the tide has turned, all our prayers have paid off and we all get the chance to hit one of the Grateful Dead x Nike SB Dunk Low's!
EXCEPT FOR THE ORANGE ONE.
Yes, you heard right, dear community. The Grateful Dead x Nike SB Dunk Low 'Orange Bear', which is the Dunk Low with the orange upper, we will probably not get our hands on that easily. Only last week it was announced that the 'Orange Bear' will be released as an exclusive drop via 24hours in-store raffle at the FTC skateshop in San Francisco! The draw was even closed since 10am that day. Nevertheless, we were not too late, because it was not possible to participate in the Raffle as a non-USA citizen.
Nevertheless a short overview of the Grateful Dead x Nike SB Dunk Low 'Orange Bear':
Let's start with the most obvious part: The base!
Here we all get a very special, extremely striking and fluffy fake fur. The overlays made of soft suede make the bear look complete and only really authentic. Laces and midsole come in the same 'Opti Orange' tone, with bilious green and 'Green Fury' colored details giving the shoe a good portion of color contrast.
Here you have noticed, if you have paid attention, that the shoe I have shown you now does not look exactly like the one that solebyjc posted 2 months ago. Because it was a sample. So we get even more contrast than expected!
The green rubber outsole then matches perfectly with the customized Dead Bear logo on the tongue. You've probably also noticed the green, unusual Nike Swoosh here for a long time! It comes in a jagged look and should symbolize the collar of the Dead Bear. How? You don't know the bear on the tongue yet? Look at this:
The last, nice highlight & the two other colorways
A stash pouche! So we get a hidden pocket with a zipper behind the tongue, where you can also find the logo of "The Grateful Dead".
But who or what is "The Grateful Dead"? And what do the Dead Bears, who actually look pretty alive, have to do with it? And when are the other two colorways coming? Questions over questions, which I will bring you in our Sneaker News at the beginning of next week! Stay tuned and see you soon!
